HISTORY
The idea for what would become Progressive Blend Radio
was hatched in October, 2005, when the person now known
on-air as “Downtown” was coming off of a soul crushing
four-week bender of reading every book in print about
the Bush Administration, culminating with the non-stop
ingestion of Bush on the Couch, a devastating
psychological analysis of our Leader by Dr. Justin
Frank. His ensuing breakdown and coma-like depression over the state
of the country, the world, and what the people in power
in Washington were doing ultimately gave way to the
determination to battle what can truly be described as
evil incarnate.
As an increasingly disillusioned fan of progressive talk
radio and one always inclined to believe in his own innate
ability to do something better than professionals,
Downtown’s decision to launch an online political talk show was a
virtual no-brainer. And hell, if you’re going to go to
all the trouble to start one talk show, you might as
well start an entire station to go along with it. Thus Progressive Blend Radio was born.
ABOUT US
Having lived and worked in Washington, DC for over a
decade, Downtown was able to assemble his own team of
policy wonks, experts, and insiders. And being a
musician, he was able to use the professional audio gear
in his own Undisclosed Basement Recording Studios to
produce professional, full featured shows and specials.
So it was that in February, 2006, The More Me Show
debuted live and Progressive Blend Radio began regular
24 hour-a-day operations.
Progressive Blend Radio is brought to you by folks whose
day jobs are so deep inside the Washington, DC Beltway
that the on-air hosts and many regular guests have to
use silly fake names on the air or risk their jobs!
Seriously - the real-life professions of the hosts and
regulars include a research director for a major arms
control think tank, a political reporter, a K Street
power player from a major firm who moves in both
Democratic and Republican circles, a consultant and
former Brookings Institution researcher who ghost-wrote
a chapter for Condi Rice in a major policy study, an
active-duty WMD expert, a practicing attorney and
constitutional law expert, and an honest-to-god Rocket
Scientist, just to name a few.
The More Me Show is Progressive Blend Radio’s
flagship original show and is streamed live every Sunday
evening from 5 - 10pm Eastern, then chopped up into
tasty, hour-long segments for podcasting. Every week the
show offers an intelligent, progressive, and hilariously
scathing take on politics, world events, culture and
music. No punches are pulled, if the Democrats act like
idiots we'll be the first to pound them for it, and
because all the folks involved are politics junkies and
policy wonks working inside the Beltway, you're sure to
hear a thing or two on the show you won't hear anyplace
else.
Being in DC also helps us get great guests and cover
important events in DC live. We've interviewed people
like Dr. Justin Frank, and David Swanson of
afterdowningstreet.org, and the show has broadcast live
from events like Camp Democracy and the Impeach for
Peace March on Washington, DC. Plus, most of the people
involved in the station are also
musicians, so the show regularly features local and
regional bands with progressive political outlooks
performing live in the studio and talking politics. We
really are the nexus of politics and music!
OUR GOAL
Progressive Blend Radio's goal to educate,
motivate, empower and entertain people like me who have
had enough and are ready to get busy with the job of
saving the country. We hope that the programming and blogging will help educate people about the issues we’re
facing and facilitate communication between people. We
hope what We’re trying to do in our own small way will
help motivate people to do something in their community,
and show them how much even one person can do these
days, especially now that they’ve got those internets on
the computer. |
